Understand Horses Live

I am very pleased to announce that I will be giving a lecture and a demo at Understand Horses Live at Writtle University College, Essex on 3-4 September 2022.

Understand Horses Live is a unique new equine event – a weekend of lectures plus practical demos & training workshops on horse behaviour, physiology and training.

An international panel of experts – equine behaviour consultants, academics, vets, physios and trainers – will lecture on a variety of fascinating subjects on Saturday, then put the scientific theory in to practice with demos and workshops with the horses based at Writtle University College on Sunday.

At the event I will be joined by fellow behaviour consultants Trudi Dempsey, Lauren Fraser (online), Robin Foster, Rosa Verwijs, Sooz Foster, Emma Lethbridge, Abigail Allen, vet Sophie Hill and physiotherapist Holly Gallacher.

Topics covered include: the effect of feed on behaviour; assessing and training basic behaviours; co-operative care for routine husbandry tasks; the effect of stress on equine health and how to avoid it; errorless learning; stress-free clicker training; assessing the horse’s emotional thresholds; the use of ‘constructional approaches’ with horses; humane training; creative environmental enrichment and the effect of human psychology on horse training.

The event is approved for CPD/CEU by the British Horse Society, IAABC and Karen Pryor Academy (plus more TBC).

The weekend event programme is now available on the Understand Horses website.
